Day 24 - July 12th Storm Lake, Iowa

Spent the night in the middle of a field last night with 2 other RVers. They were both gone by the time we got moving this morning. Pretty fun just pulling over wherever!

Don decided today he would not ride. It's just not safe - or fun! There was a tornado 40 miles north of us last night. It's just too windy right now. I asked him if he was disappointed and he really isn't. It's just not a possibility. He had a hard time going forward. When James rode with his dad, he was riding at an angle, leaning into the wind to stay upright. Pretty funny!

So instead we're at Kingspointe Resort. Carol, you gotta check it out. We got the family suite and it's lovely. We got a great rate by just showing up - better than I had been quoted via phone two months ago. It includes two days of water passes for the whole family. Today and tomorrow are play dates. Then Don will hit the road again on Monday as we go from here to Harlan. I'm off to the pool. Smiths, you'd love this place!

Oh, Wendy S., guess what? I-90 really does go past Spokane! We crossed it again today in Iowa. =)

Day 25 - July 13th Somewhere in Iowa

Who knows what happened today or where we were? We can't remember!! It must have been pretty memorable!!

Day 26 - July 14th Omaha, NEBRASKA

What a fun day! Don got up early and headed out this morning on his bike from Prairie Rose State Park where we spent the night. We played some Settlers of Katan - yes, we're addicts - and then headed off to pick him up just outside of Omaha. He had a great morning and his body was feeling good again. Thank goodness - that wind just about did him in the last two days!

Crossed the Missouri into Nebraska and went to the Omaha Zoo. It's really, really cool! We love the Seattle Zoo that we go to every summer or when we're in Redmond with Auntie Sheryl & Uncle Dana & Cousin Catlyn. Sheryl, this zoo is pretty amazing, too! - you guys will have to come check it out sometime if you haven't already. The bears and gorillas are way cooler in Seattle but the Omaha Zoo has this amazing penguin display where there is snow and water and the penguins are swimming and it's very fun. Also, they have a ton of animals in their own habitats but in a small area with glass where you can sit there and just stare right at them, up close. There are also caves, desserts, jungles, etc. We had a blast.

Marianne - we were walking down towards the big cats when James starts talking to someone. I ask him if he knows this kid and it's Patrick McGinnis! Talk about a small world. Apparently his family is here while his dad is up working with you guys on the house?? Pretty amazing to run into next door neighbor friends!!

Came back to our hotel to find that it is the Pee Wee World Championships and Ice Skating for Olympics and some College Championships and who knows what else - so Omaha is packed, as was our hotel. They only had a room with one queen size bed in it. But as the Pikes, Smiths and McCrillis's know, we found a way to make it work! =)

It's our last scheduled hotel stop until Washington D.C., which is still a few weeks away so we're enjoying the soap, the fresh running water and the TV!!
