Our First Day on the Road

We got up around 5:30 am, excited and anxious to get our day started. Arrived downtown to find a whole bunch of family and friends ready to see us off. Don’s dad and his wife, my cousin Vicki, Cindy Dibble and girls, Michlle Gardner (the head of Kingdom Kids, gthe organization we are riding for) and others were there. A big group of them had brought bikes, including my mom, the Henrys, the Stiles, and the Popes. KHQ TV was kind enough to come down and see us off, letting Spokane know about the African Orphans and Widows Project and how to support it. It was so much fun and a glorious day as we all headed out from the carrousel in downtown Spokane to the library at Argonne. My friend, Trish Hendrick, drove the RV so our whole family could ride together. It felt SO good! What a great way to start the trip!! From there we said our good-byes to everyone but Trish. Even though we had already ridden about 15 miles, James and Elsie wanted to keep biking. James and Trish biked together until Post Falls, where we pulled over for lunch at a great park with a creek. Then James and Elsie biked to Coeur d’Alene, at which point Don called me to please come rescue the kids. They were sunburnt, hot and spent. We then drove ahead to Sandpoint and had a nice evening at a campground. Don rolled in around 7pm as we had all held him up so much along the way. But he showed up beaming, thrilled with the ride and the day. By 10 we were all in bed snoring away.
